There isn't a great tradition of using window shutters in the UK, as opposed to the continent, but if you have a Georgian house, you may be lucky enough to still have the original internal timber shutters.

Shutters can of course be positioned both internally or externally. They provide security and/or shading. If ventilation is important, consider timber louvred (or plantation shutters). Metal roller shutters are generally used for security, but tend to look a bit industrial. Sliding concertina security grilles on the inside are a bit more discrete.

Remember that if you have a listed building you may need Listed Building Consent to add shutters.

  • Shaftesbury Shutters -custom made window, plantation, solid, louvre shutters and interior shutters, in painted wood or natural cedar.

Shading systems -louvres, awnings: see also fritted glass too.

  • Levolux -aluminium, timber or glass shading louvres, aerofoil fins, external blinds and automatic control systems.
